Beer and Burdock
For the second time this week I have eaten burdock. Yes, burdock, that pesky weed that even cows won't eat--and sticks to your clothing. I fought patches of this wild plant every summer on the farm. I don't know if it was the "common" burdock or the "giant" burdock (it looked pretty giant when I was a kid). I just know that I can't believe I'm eating it here. Its root is used as a vegetable in various Japanese dishes. I don't like its texture or taste unless deep-fried so it resembles french fries. It is frequently served in pubs with beer. Beer and Burdock. I guess they go together.
